The whole nation tuned in as we all witnessed George Floyd being pinned down by the atrocious police officer who took Floyd’s life. We all watched as the same police officer stood trial and was sentenced for that act. We all felt the rush when we heard the jury convict Floyd’s murderer as guilty. It’s safe to say Floyd is a part of history as it brought awareness to many across the nation in regard to police brutality among African Americans. We all knew it existed, but many are paying even more attention after the nation watched it on their televisions. However, not many feel very happy about this ruling of this police officer. White supremacist groups around the nation have made their voices known of what they feel was an injustice to the officer who they feel was doing his job to serve and protect.
In Brooklyn, New York, this anger over the injustice a white supremacist group felt was shown for all to see when they vandalized the newly raised statue of George Floyd. Black paint was thrown all over the head of George Floyd that was just placed in honor of this social icon just five days prior to the incident in the middle of the night as reported by both the police as well as the man who created the sculpture associated with ConfrontArt which was placed at Flatbush Junction. This is located near the highly acclaimed Brooklyn College. The culprits wanted people to know who they were though they did this in the middle of the night. It is said they used a stencil to spray white paint to write the name of their group on the statue. The funding for this prized statue was from a foundation created named We Are Floyd Foundations. This foundation was created by Floyd’s own brother.
There have been no arrests made just yet to those behind the defacing to this statue. Those supporting George Floyd and his family can rest assured though that they are working hard to find who is behind this horrendous crime. The police do have a timeline of when this took place between the hours of three and five in the morning on Thursday. No one has stepped forward to give any helpful tips though. This has them at a dead-end. The culprits wanted people to know who they were though they did this in the middle of the night. It is said they used a stencil to spray white paint to write the name of their group on the statue. The hours in which this took place was thought out. The culprits knew just when police weren’t stationed near this sculpture. Police encourage any and all people who have any information to come forward. There is outrage in Brooklyn about this vandalism.
