John Bon Jovi is known for his Rock n’ Roll superstardom and countless hits, he is adding philanthropy to that long list of achievements. Coming from a background with both parents serving in the United States Marine Corps, Bon Jovi hasn’t forgotten all the sacrifices our veterans have made for this great country. With all the news headlines focusing on what seems to be an endless dark tunnel of despair and turmoil going on right now in the United States, as well as other countries, it is a breath of fresh air to hear heartwarming stories of people being human doing good for one another. In 2006, the JBJ Foundation was started with a goal to help break the cycle of poverty and homelessness many veterans fall victim to. It’s truly something special when celebrities and other public figures use their influence to get people together and help contribute to pay it forward and show gratitude for the services rendered.

Many us of can relate as we have more than likely had a family member, relative or close friend serve in the Armed Forces, and see the pride and honor they have in serving their country, but for many veterans, they also sacrifice mental health, physical health and too often the ultimate sacrifice of life itself to protect our American way of life, rights and freedoms. Coming back from such horrific events like war and adapting to everyday normal life is complicated for many vets, as there is a lack of programs to help reintegrate vets back into society when their time served is up, especially for those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). There are positive perks that come from putting in the time to serve the country, but there are downfalls for some when returning such as substance abuse, starvation and homelessness.

A couple months ago Bon Jovi donated half a million dollars helping a minimum of 300 homeless veterans get back in the fight and regain their lives at home, by building housing for those in need. JBJ is also not afraid to get his hands dirty as well by washing dishes and helping feed his local community. Three basic needs of life are food, water, and shelter, and as long as we stand “United” and continue to help out one another we can move forward to a better and brighter future, one where we can all benefit from the countless sacrifices made by those that served on and behind the front lines. Following the example of Bon Jovi and many others is a step in the right direction.
