On Twitter, footage of a guy fiercely opposing the concept of introducing critical race theory (CRT) during an Illinois board meeting of educators has been viewed over 2 million times. According to a source from Cities 929, a radio network where Smith regularly broadcasts a talk program, Ty Smith, an African American, made the remarks at an 87th District session of Illinois’ School Board. Smith’s show is titled, “Cancel This”. Benny Johnson, creative director of the conservative student club Turning Point USA, posted the video. By Friday morning, it had 2 million views. “When you speak of Critical Race Theory, which is basically going to be teaching students how to hate and despise one other,” Smith told the education board. “That’s basically what it’s all going to boil down to.”
Racism, according to theorists of the critical race school of thought, is an everyday reality for most people of color, and a major section of society has no desire to abolish it because it benefits White elites. Many individuals feel that American institutions are racist and that people are favored or oppressed based on their race. While the idea began as an attempt to investigate how rules and systems promote civil inequality, it has since broadened to examine the significance of a hierarchical caste role in establishing societal systems that are considered bastions of institutionalized racism. Some recent events have given momentum to the CRT movement, including the rash of police killings of unarmed blacks in random traffic stops or even unauthorized entering of homes that resulted in the deaths of innocent victims caught in the crossfire, such as Breonna Taylor.
Critics of the theory, however, contend that it sets at naught the very people that the Civil Rights movement intended to bring together. This belief formed the basis of Ty Smith’s rant. He contended that white and black students would not benefit from being taught Critical Race Theory in school because it would create the same kind of animosity that he experienced when he was in elementary and was told to eat last because he had a lunch card (free lunch). Smith spoke on FOX Business’ “Varney & Co.” to discuss his experiences since stepping out and how he wants to continue combating critical race theory. “Large amounts of people from the area and from pretty much all around the globe have been emailing me, showing wonderful support, and thanking me for sticking up for our youths,” Smith added. “I appreciate your bravery and boldness. Moreover, Smith stated that the school board had scrapped the next three scheduled meetings as a result of his viral remarks. On an earlier Fox News broadcast, “According to Smith in “America’s Newsroom,” CRT is “a whole bunch of crap, moral grandstanding, and playing off people’s emotions.” The human race is the only race that exists.” Ty Smith, a parent, and conservative YouTuber claims that it will be ready for action by the end of the year.
